Joseph Devine

Joseph Devine (born August 7, 1937, Glasgow, Scotland) is a Catholic bishop. He was educated at St. Ninian's Primary School, Kirkintilloch, St. Mary's College, and St. Peter's College Cardross. He was ordained a priest on 29 June 1960 at Glasgow Scots College, Rome. He received his Ph.D. in 1964, also at Gregorian University. He was private secretary to the Archbishop of Glasgow from 1964-65. He was assistant priest at St. Robert Bellarmine, Glasgow, from 1965-67 and at St. Joseph's, Helensburgh, from 1967-72. He was on staff at St. Peter's College, Cardross, from 1967-74. He was on staff at the Episcopal vicar, Lay Apostolate, from 1974-83. He was nominated for Titular Bishop of Voli (and auxiliary bishop) on 5 May 1977. He was ordained Bishop by Thomas Joseph Winning, Archbishop of Glasgow, in St. Francis' Church, Glasgow on 31 May 1977. He was translated to Motherwell on the 13 May 1983.
