Joseph Calleja

Joseph Calleja, (b. 22 January 1978), is a Maltese tenor. He began singing at the age of 16 and being discovered by Paul Asciak continued his studies with him. At the young age of 19, he made his first operatic debut as Macduff in Verdi's Macbeth at Astra Theatre in Gozo and went on to become a prize winner in at the Belvedere Hans Gabor competition the same year. In 1998 he won the Caruso Competition in Milan and was a prize winner in Placido Domingo's Operalia in 1999. Calleja is one of the most promising young tenors today. He also recorded two Compacts disc with his performances which has also been given radio play in the U.S. These are Tenor Arias and The Golden Voice.
