This article provides information about the Joseon Navy during the Japan/Korea war of 1592.

[edit] Maritime defence during the Japanese invasions
In 1592, the responsibility for the maritime defence was shared between four Commanders who covered the two Joseon's southern provinces corresponding to the actual Gyeongsang and Jeolla. From the west to the east there was :
- The Commander of Jeolla Right Navy (Hangul: 전라우도수군, Hanja: 全羅右水營), who was Yi Eok Ki, was based on the southeast part of Jeolla province.
- The Commander of Jeolla Left Navy (Hangul: 전라좌도수군, Hanja: 全羅左水營), who was Yi Sun-sin, was based at Yeosu, a city in southwestern [[Jeolla]}province.
- The Commander of Gyeongsang Right Navy (Hangul: 경상우도수군, Hanja: 慶尙右水營), who was Won Kyun, whose base lay on the western shores of Kǒje Island.
- The Commander of Gyeongsang Left Navy (Hangul: 경상좌도수군), Hanja: 慶尙左水營), who was Park Hong, was stationed on an island near to Busan harbour.

- Jeolla Right Navy consisted of 30 warships with 5000 men
- Jeolla Left Navy consisted of 25 warships with 4000 men
- Gyeongsang Right Navy consisted of 75 warships with 12000 men
- Gyeongsang Left Navy also consisted of 75 warships with 12000 men
