José Pereira

José Pereira (born Torres Vedras, 15 September 1931) was a Portuguese goalkeeper. He´s mostly remembered for being the World Cup 1966 goalkeeper in all, except one, the games.
He played for Belenenses, from 1954/55 to 1966/67. He´s usually considered as a good, but not a great goalkeeper, but he still had 11 caps for Portugal National Team. He had is debut, aged 33, in the 1-0 win over Turkey, in 19 April 1965, for the World Cup qualifyings. He played most of the games of the qualification, having to face the rivality of Sporting Lisbon goalkeeper, Joaquim Carvalho. Carvalho played the first game in the World Cup finals, a 3-1 win over Hungary, but José Pereira was chosen to play all the other five games of the great campaign Portugal had, finnishing with the 3 rd place. He had many fault in the first goal Portugal had from England, in the semi-finals 1-2 loss. After the World Cup finals, his last game was the 1-2 defeat to Sweden, in 13 September 1966, for the European Championship qualifyings.
