José Macías

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

José Prado Macías (born January 25, 1972 in Panama City, Panama) is a Major League Baseball player free agent. Macias has played for the Detroit Tigers (1999-part of 2002) the Montreal Expos (part of 2002-2003), and the Chicago Cubs (2004-2005). Macias is known as being a utility player, as he has played third base, shortstop, second base and all three outfield positions in his career. He is also the emergency catcher if needed, but has not played in a major league game at catcher at any point in his career. He has pitched in his home country of Panama, and has expressed a desire to play all nine positions in a game if at any point his team can afford it (i.e., because they have clinched a division or Wild Card or have been eliminated). Macias was released by the Cubs during the offseason in 2005 and has signed with the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters of Japan.
