José Ferraz de Almeida Júnior (Itu, São Paulo, 8 May 1859 - Piracicaba, 13 November 1899), was a Brazilian painter from the 19th century. He first studyed at the Fine Arts Academy, but in 1876, he followed to Europe, thanks to a scholarship by emperor Peter II. He admired the French realistic and naturalist painting, and, after returning to Brazil, in 1882, he become of the leading names of realism in Brazilian painting. He died assassinated by his mistress husband, aged only 40.
