José Ernesto Sosa is an Argentine football midfielder. He was born on June 19, 1985, in the city of Carcarañá, Santa Fe Province. He currently plays for Estudiantes de La Plata in the Argentine first division.

Sosa has played for Estudiantes since 2002. The undisputable highlight of his career to date was helping Estudiantes to win their first league title since 1983 by scoring the equalising goal from a free kick against Boca Juniors in the 2006 Apertura final playoff game.

After that game, his manager Diego Simeone recommended Sosa to S.S. Lazio, and it was hinted in the press that other European clubs were interested in Sosa. On February 24, 2007, a deal was announced between Estudiantes and FC Bayern München, and four days later, details of the transfer were disclosed: Estudiantes will receive 6 million euros plus ten percent of any future transfer. Sosa's contract is worth 4.5 million euros over four years.

Sosa will stay with Estudiantes for the remainder of the 2007 Clausura tournament.

[edit] International Career

Sosa played for Argentina under-20 team during the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship.

National coach Alfio Basile drafted Sosa for the national team on February 28, 2007. Sosa said to the press that he will "never forget this Tuesday" in which he achieved two of his childhood dreams (the transfer to a major European club and the call to the national team) [1].
