[edit] Major league career

During the 2004 season, Bautista played for the Baltimore Orioles, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Kansas City Royals, and then Pittsburgh. He was also technically on the New York Mets roster after being acquired from the Royals and dealt to the Pirates the same day.[1] This made him the first player to be on 5 different major-league rosters over the course of one season.

The Pirates had lost him last winter in the Rule 5 draft, and he made his debut with Baltimore on April 4th. He was claimed off waivers by Tampa Bay on June 3rd, and traded to Kansas City on June 28th. He was then sent to the Mets on July 30th, and without playing a game for New York, was traded to Pittsburgh.

[edit] Fielding

Bautista is known for his versatility in the field, playing center field, third base, right field, left field, and second base. In 2006 spring training, he also briefly played shortstop.

[edit] Hitting

A .225 batter through the 2006 season, his batting average has suggested that he has been especially overmatched when runners have been in scoring position (.188), pinch hitting (.174), games have been late and close (.157), and there have been 2 out with runners in scoring position (.078).[2]
