Jorge Vicente

Captain Jorge Vincente is a fictional Portuguese Army officer who features in two Richard Sharpe novels by Bernard Cornwell.
Jorge Vincente first appears in Sharpe's Havoc in which he is a lieutenant in the Portuguese 18th (2nd Oporto) Line Infantry. He was before the French Invasion studying law at the University of Oporto and was originally from Coimbra. He has been cut off from his regiment and falls in with Sharpe. Throughout the book he comes into conflict with Sharpe, due to his idealism and wish to stick to the rules of war. He and Sharpe however develop a mutual respect. Vincente next appears in Sharpe's Escape, at the Battle of Bussaco. By now he his a captain in one of the cazadore regiments present at the battle. Vincente has adopted many of Sharpe's unique traits by carrying a heavy cavalry sword and a Baker rifle.
