Jorge Guillermo Borges

Jorge Guillermo Borges (1874-1938). Son of Colonel Francisco Borges Lafinur and Frances Anne Haslam, of English origin. He was the father of Argentinian writer Jorge Luis Borges.
Jorge Guillermo Borges studied Law, but never practised and instead concentrated on Literature. He was the author of a novel ("El Caudillo", published in Palma de Mallorca, 1921), and of a translation to Spanish of the Fitzgerald version of Omar Kayyam's Rubaiyat, and several sonnets.
He was also responsible for the literary calling and formation of his son Jorge Luis. In numerous occasions, Jorge Luis Borges remembers his father's library, composed mainly of English works, as the capital fact in his life, and says he received his first literary and philosophical teachings from his father.
