Jonathon Riley

Jonathon Peter Riley, DSO (born January 16, 1955) is a Major General in the Royal Welch Fusiliers. He joined the Army in 1973 and was awarded a medal for bravery in 1996. He has served six tours in Northern Ireland, five in the Balkans, in addition to service in Central America and Sierra Leone, and has been commanding troops in Iraq since 2004. Riley was brought up in Yorkshire, and educated at St Mary's School in Beverley and Kingston School, before gaining a degree in geography from University College, London, and a Master's degree in history at Leeds University. He is the partner of BBC Wales news presenter Sara Edwards. Their first child was born in 2006.
