From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jonancy, Kentucky is a small hamlet in Pike County in eastern Kentucky. The latitude of Jonancy is 37.316N. The longitude is -82.583W. Jonancy is in the Eastern Coal Field region. The community is in the Eastern Standard time zone.
The most famous resident is James Blake Miller, then a 19-year old Marine Lance Corporal, who was first featured on the November 10, 2004 front page of the Los Angeles Times following a raid in the volatile city of Fallujah, Iraq. Afterwards at least 100 newspaper front pages across the United States featured the photo and labeled him "Marlboro Man" (as he was smoking a Marlboro cigarette). He was later diagnosed with PTSD and is on a military disability annuity.
The New York Post summed it up in a front-page headline: "Marlboro Men Kick Butt in Fallujah". He was not identified by name at the time.
He has a special connection to the hamlet: "It's named after my great-great-great grandparents: Joe and Nancy Miller ... [t]hey were the first people in those parts."
[edit] Marriage
He was married in June 2005 to Jessica Holbrook in a civil ceremony, and in a lavish affair at a country club in Prestonsburg, Kentucky, which was paid for by donations from admirers throughout the USA in June 2006. The couple filed for divorce the same month after one year of wedded bliss. The couple blame James' PTSD for the break-up of their marriage.
