Jon Vesano

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jon Vesano was a bass player for the technical death metal band Nile. However, before being the sought after bass player whom guitarists Dallas Toler-Wade and Karl Sanders saw fit as to handle the Bass parts which required a lot of dexterity. Jon usually plays with a pick although he also plays well with his fingers, such as on "Execration Text" and "Sarcophagous". However, all of Jon's basswork includes intense basswork and due to the speed of the picking guitarists Karl Sanders and Dallas Toler-Wade. Vesano's style is practically strictly alternate picking orientated, at absurd speeds with absurd fretwork. He rarely, however, uses any other extended techniques such as finger-tapping, slapping, or popping, which are the usual techniques most technical bassists include as part of their arsenal.

Another thing that got Nile fans to notice Jon was his stage presence. Jon is a large man with considerable amounts of muscle which is rare for a musician, added to that his Spector Bass, few people could miss him and his frantic onstage headbanging.

However, Vesano left Nile before the release of their latest album, Annihilation of the Wicked, although he had already recorded half of it, due to him not wanting to quit his daytime job, which was granting him a significant amount of money, more than Nile ever did.

[edit] Other projects

Vesano is also founding member of the band DarkMoon. Although the band doesn't dabble in syncopations and technical riffing as Nile does, Jon is also proposing his skill through the very audible bass on all of DarkMoon's work. It is that which caught the attention of Nile when bassist Chief Spires quit and Nile needed someone skilled enough to get the job done.

Another band Jon participated in was Demonic Christ.
