Jon played his way "through the ranks" at Bradford Northern, playing at prop forward. He made his first team debut in the televised John Player Special Trophy game against Widnes in November 1985, coming off the bench. In 1987 he established himself as first choice prop and went on to make over 250 first team appearances for Bradford Northern (renamed Bradford Bulls in 1996). Jon retired from the game in 1996.
