Jolly Grant Airport (IATA: DED, ICAO: VIDN), also known as Dehradun Airport, is an airport serving Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India.
Jolly Grant Airport is not a lighted airport. The runway is short, making it suitable only for small aircraft. The airport is, however, a controlled one.
The Airports Authority of India has proposed to expand the runway at the airport, which can handle only 42-seater Turboprop Aircrafts or SAAB 340s, to allow it to handle the movements of Airbus A-320s, Boeing 737s and other aircraft in their category. This will get more airlines flying in, Howerver, this may take a lot of time as land acquisation is a major problem, with houses and an important public road surrounding it. Further on, there are tall hills.
[edit] Airlines
As of right now, the only airline that flies to Dehradun is Air Deccan. There are two daily scheduled flights to India's capital, Delhi. Both the flights are operated using ATR aircraft. As the airport is not lighted and the approach is visual, these flights can get delayed or cancelled due to poor visibility or bad weather.
