Talk:Joke character
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bridget in GGXX is a powerful charater with a complex playstyle. He is certainly not intentionally designed to be weak, a la Dan or Roll. Same goes for Rainbow Mika.
- I suggest we make another section for "joke" characters who are actually usable such as the above two. Pikawil 22:02, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Pichu IS a joke character
Excuse me while I rant but I have to stress out the fact that he was intentionally made to be weak (Unlike Mewtwo, who was unintentionally made bottom-tier material). Let's see the facts:
- A much weaker clone of Pikachu [1] (Crtl-F "Pikachu and Pichu" and read the damn thing.). Excuse me, but if you haven't done so, play Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 and tell me if Roll is a much weaker clone of Mega Man (Hell, she was even nerfed in MvC2!). Pichu is also in the same case. And if Masahiro Sakurai wanted to, he could have chosen Raichu as a Pikachu clone but no, he stuck with the baby (The again, God knows why he made Ganondorf a Captain Falcon clone.), which I'll get to latter.
- "Hardly a joke character if it's used to control handicaps in the game", my ass. By that, you also want to mean that Dan should be removed from the list if he's hardly a joke character if he's used to control handicaps in the game! And read the article: "In informal multiplayer competition, the most skilled player present often uses a joke character in order to make the matches more competitive." So why Pichu should be removed from the list for that reason, but not Dan?
- It's a Baby Pokémon, meaning that it was automatically meant to be weak.
- It's the lightest character in the whole game, it self-hurts in many moves (Including ALL B-moves), it shoots the Super Scope in a suggestive way and it sleeps while ducking. Let's see the article, shall we: "Joke characters are easily identified for having abilities that are far below those of the other characters, and often behave in a comical manner.". Pichu fits both bills here.
- He's bottom-tier in the current SSBM tier list. Considering his flaws and the fact that no one uses him in competitive play, that's saying a lot.
There. I hope that's enough to make you realize that Pichu = an intentional joke.

- The same logic would have Jigglypuff as a joke character since apparently it can easily be knocked away, but zoomj it's top-tier. Top-tier is a rather unpopular notion anyway and doesn't prove anything. And it's abilities are NOT far below-- it does far more damage than Pikachu, sometimes for only a 1 or 2 percent damage sacrifice. Sweet example is to use Thunder against characters on the platform above you-- no damage done to you, and more damage dealt than Pikachu would. And again, by your logic, since Jigglypuff is not fully evolved, and it's Rest attack is insanely powerful to the point of comedy, it must be a joke character too? Oh, no-- it's 'top tier', so that overrides the comical way in which it attacks. Or Yoshi? He's not top tier, but lulz he poops eggs. No go.--ArrEmmDee 23:38, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Pepsiman is not from Fighters Megamix
Pepsiman is from Fighting Vipers. However, a palette swap version of him can be found in Fighters Megamix as "Rent a Hero," the protagonist from SEGA's Rent a Hero RPG series. They did this in order to bring back the same character without using the Pepsi trademark for the crossover. Both characters are fairly powerful and should not be considered "joke characters."
Anyway, I have changed the page to show the correct game he is in.Machriderx 18:24, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
