Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) is an all-India test conducted by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) along with IISc as an entrance test for the technical programmes of their respective Engineering schools.

The exam is a math and science skills exam conducted by each one of the IIT in a rotation policy. The exam tests candidate's knowledge of mathematics, physics and chemistry.

The test is conducted annually, and comprises questions in multiple choice format.

Around 300,000 students compete for about 4000 seats in the IITs and IISc, which makes it extremely selective. After qualifying the exam, a candidate must also pass group and individual interviews. Only 1 in 60 students gets admitted into the IITs. Most prestigeious universities like Harvard and MIT have 1 is 8 students aceceptance ratio.

Recently the exam pattern was changed allowing the students to take stress out of the test.A minimum 60% marks required from 12th grade to be eligible to appear for the exam.Starting from 2007 a candidate can take the exam only two times.
