Joint Communications Unit (Northern Ireland)

The Joint Communications Unit Northern Ireland (JCU-NI) is one of the cover name given to the 14 Intelligence Company.

Operating from Lisburn in Northern Ireland in support of the SAS and other Special Forces and Intelligence operations. Men and women were drawn from all Regiments and Corps including the QARANC and WRAC to carry out undercover surveillance, observation and re-supply in support of Counter Terrorism operations.

Chosen for their mental toughness as well as more obvious attributes, these soldiers were expected to operate in extreme and dangerous conditions, often for long periods without any contact. Many of the operators were able to fit in to the local community because they typically did not look or behave like a stereo typical Special Forces Soldier.

Trained to a very high level and with access to leading edge technology, JCU-NI has now been merged into the Special Reconnaissance Regiment
