Joint Cargo Aircraft
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Joint Cargo Aircraft (JCA) is a program by the US Army and the US Air Force to upgrade their military tactical transport capability by 2010 and to free C-130s from the tactical transport role in war scenarios. The JCA will eventually replace the existing C-23 Sherpa, C-12 Huron and C-26 Metroliner.
Currently there are two main contesters, the Raytheon/EADS C-295 and the Lockheed Martin Alenia Tactical Transport Systems C-27J Spartan. The initial order will be for some 30-35 aircraft, and the program can extend to some 145 aircraft (75 for the US Army and 70 for USAF) and a cost of 6 billion US dollars.
Final selection of the JCA is expected to be announced in March, 2007.
