Joi (band)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Joi is a British/Bangladeshi alternative dub/dance music DJ team, originally comprised of London brothers Farook and Haroon Shamsher. Haroon died at the turn of the century, and the remaining brother has continued Joi alone.

[edit] Brief biography

Joi began in the early 1980s as Joi Bangla with bengali/funk crossover material but they established themselves on the now legendary Rhythm King Records label in the late 1980s with a series of critically acclaimed vinyl releases.

The Shamsher brothers also provided music for the computer game Chaos Engine early in the 1990s.

Gaining prestige during the 1990s with their DJ sets and club-nights, Joi finally put out their debut full-length album on fan Peter Gabriel's Realworld Records label. Haroon Shamsher died while working on the follow-up. His brother continued the group alone, finally completing the album and releasing it in tribute to his respected brother.
