John R New I joined Wikepedia as a new user in July 2006. I am a keen supporter of the Wikipedian principle of self help and open source editing. Hopefully I won't make too many newbie gaffes over the coming months as I try to navigate my way through the Wikipedia system and learn its intricacies.
As set out the user page guidance notes I add a bit about my background and interests. In professional life I am UK based local government manager, holder of the UK post-graduate level Diploma in Management Studies and am also a Member of the Chartered Management Institution. My non-work related activities include historical research and photography, including railway history and industrial archaelogy related topics. I am an occasional published author on relevant subjects in connection with my full-time work and outside interests.
I have joined Wikipedia to participate actively in the topic areas relevant to my historical research interests. This interest is the coal mining and related wagonways activity around Wollaton and Strelley and the history of early railways in general.
