John Phar is a avant garde baker living in Chappaqua, New York. Born in 1957 in Hebden Bridge, United Kingdom, Phar moved to the US in 1978 initially baking at early No Wave concerts in New York City. His past works have included Seeded and Sliced (exocet) (1983), Barm Cake Blues Pts 2-5 (1990) and his acclaimed 3 day conceptual work Yeast Intolerance (2001) where he installed radio controlled flying devices inside loaves of varied breads which a team of assistants flew over a potato field outside of Boise, Idaho. He is currently working as artist in residence for the agricultural company Monsanto.
