[edit] Sculptor in ordinary - probably not

The Gazeteer for Scotland entry for Steell says "He was appointed Queen Victoria's Sculptor in Scotland", but I don't think that's true (and at certainly I can't find evidence to support that claim). The post of Sculptor in Ordinary for Scotland seems to be one that someone holds until they die, and Boehm held it until he died in 1890. I suppose it's possible that they gave it to Steell upon Boehm's death, only for Steell to die the following year. This much more complete biography doesn't mention that at all. -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 22:59, 6 December 2005 (UTC)

This antique blog also says the same thing, so much so that it may be derived from the Gazeteer. -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 23:26, 6 December 2005 (UTC)
