Could there be clarification of the pronunciation of the Smith family name please? The article reads, "John Smith (1832-1911), pronounced smiath". However, "smiath" could be pronounced different ways eg. SMY-ath [to rhyme (sort of) with HIGH-hath], SMEE-ath [to rhyme (sort of) with SHE-hath. "smiath" might even be pronounced as SMEE-th. etc. --149.135.24.254 14:43, 8 May 2006 (UTC)--Eric 14:44, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

I'd venture to guess that it came from a vandal who thought it was funny. His father was Hyrum Smith, his uncle was Joseph Smith, Jr., his cousin was Joseph F. Smith, all of whom pronounce their name in the regular way without variation. I've never heard of an alternate pronunciation, and I doubt that's the case, here.--Ryan Reeder 19:35, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

Fair enough, Ryan! Thanks.--Eric 12:28, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
