John Paxson is a very nice guy. I met him at a Notre Dame basketball game when I was a junior and he was a freshman. My roommate, Beth, was the Sports Editor of the Notre Dame student newspaper, and she often hung out with athletes at games. She kept calling him Johnny, and introduced me to this really young kid who was hobbling around with a broken leg. He was very low-key, courteous, and kind. Once he got back to playing condition, he'd started making his mark on Notre Dame, and later on the Bulls. And I knew him when he was just a very nice freshman named Johnny, with a broken leg.
