[edit] Date of death

Was it really the 18th, and not the 17th? An earlier edit said it occurred at 6:30 am AEDT, but in Turkey this could well have been prior to midnight, therefore still on the 17th. My time zones are not up to speed. JackofOz 05:36, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

The SMH says the death occurred at around 5am AEDT. This equates to around 9pm 17th May, Turkish time. I've changed the date accordingly. JackofOz 08:38, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

The SMH says he was born in 1943, not 1950 as stated in the article here. Aafuss06:45, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

The other John Marsden (author) was born in 1950, it would seem someone has confused the two.

This SMH obit says January 3, 1942. I'll put that in for now, since it's more likely to be right than 1950. --Calair 01:43, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Saddam Hussein

Did he end up doing any legal work for Saddam Hussein? Andjam 11:23, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

I think illness put a stop to that, but I'm not sure how far along it was (if at all). The matter probably deserves a mention, but I don't have enough info to write it. --Calair 23:37, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Gay rights activism

I removed from the lead that he was involved in gay rights activism as it isn't backed up by the body. Currently, the only thing in the body that is related to same-sex stuff is that he outed two alleged rape victims as lesbians, and that the kiddie-fiddling accusations he won defamation over was of the same-sex variety. They may be indicitive of prejudice in some people's POV but not activism. Andjam 15:25, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

I re-added with a second link to the SMH obit, which discusses his activism; see also things like this speech. The body could certainly do with fleshing-out in that regard, but I don't have time to do it at the moment; meanwhile, I think it's notable enough to be acknowledged. --Calair 23:33, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

Reverted an anon edit because it's an unattributed cut-and-paste from this Paul Sheehan editorial. I'll try to work some of it into the article, but the original tone ('blood on his hands') isn't exactly encyclopaedic. --Calair 01:58, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Marsden Family

Anybody know if John Marsden was connected to Samuel Marsden or early colonial families?
