(El parque fue llamado de esa forma oficialmente luego de la inauguración de la estatua de John Lennon por Fidel y el ministro de cultura Abel Prieto. Anteriormente, a raíz de un concierto donde participó Sintesis, Carlos Varela, entre otros, habían puesto una placa con el nombre de Lennon, pero mandaron a quitarla por no ser oficial.)
