From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johnny McCauley is an Irish singer/songwriter born in Derry, Northern Ireland on April 23rd 1925. In his late teens he moved to London and in 1953 began singing professionally with the dance band at the Galtymore Club in Cricklewood, London.

Always a country music fan he started to write and release songs on his own Denver Records label and toured extensively with The Johnny McCauley Trio. It wasn't long before his songs were being covered by a host of Irish singing stars. The blend of American country sounds with Irish based lyrics proved a winning combination and Country 'n' Irish music was born.

Johnny has written over 80 songs, his best known include My Donegal Shore, Among The Wicklow Hills, Pretty Girl From Omagh and Four Country Roads. Many artists ranging from Christy Moore to Daniel O'Donnell have recorded his songs and they continue to be recorded and performed around the world. Johnny is retired now and still residing in London.
