Johnny Marinville

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

John Edward "Johnny" Marinville is a fictional character from the Mirror-Image worlds in the Stephen King and Richard Bachman Novels Desperation and The Regulators, respectively.

On both worlds in which the books are set, he is a famous, semi-retired writer (some fans of Stephen King's works believe that the character may even allude in whole or in part to Stephen King himself). On both worlds, he takes the advice of his ex-wife, Terry, to get out of the limelight for a while in order to stop his self-destructive behaviours.

And in both cases, he inadvertently ends up in the same location, and is forced to deal with, the Tak on both worlds.

[edit] Death

As is the case with the majority of the characters in the two novels, Johnny survives the events of one book but falls victim to the forces of darkness in the other.

In "The Regulators," Johnny is one of the relatively few survivors left on Poplar Street when Tak-Seth simultaneously transforms the street into an amalgam of movie Westerns and Saturday morning cartoons and places it into its own pocket dimension.

However, Johnny Marinville dies in "Desperation," when at the request of God Himself he volunteers for a suicide mission; fate and circumstance demanded that someone detonate several pounds of ANFO by hand and at close range near the ini -Tak's entry into Earth's dimension -which lies at the very bottom of the Rattlesnake Number Nine mine shaft. He is successful in his actions: at the cost of his own life, he collapses the mineshaft, as well the surrounding area, to such a degree that it is highly unlikely that the Nevada Mining Corporation will ever again attempt to look for copper ore at that location....which in turn will keep Tak from ever again being released from its extradimensional prison.
