Johnny Got His Gun is a 1971 anti-war film based on the book of the same name written and directed by Dalton Trumbo and starring Timothy Bottoms, Jason Robards, and Donald Sutherland.

A young American soldier, hit by a shell on the last day of the First World War, lies in a hospital bed, a quadruple amputee who has lost his eyes, ears, mouth and nose. He remains conscious, and able to reason, and tries to communicate to his doctors his wish that he be put on show in a carnival as a demonstration of the horrors of war.

The music video for Metallica's 1988 song "One" included many clips and dialogue from the movie of Johnny Got His Gun. In order to get permission to use these clips, Metallica had to purchase the rights to the entire movie.
