Johnnie LeMaster

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johnnie Lee LeMaster (born June 19, 1954 in Portsmouth, Ohio) is a former shortstop in Major League Baseball who played for the San Francisco Giants (1975-1985[start]), Cleveland Indians (1985[mid]), Pittsburgh Pirates (1985[end]) and Oakland Athletics (1987). He batted and threw right handed.

A competent infielder, LeMaster was the regular shortstop for the Giants for 10 years. He set a major league record by hitting an inside-the-park home run in his first at bat, but he would hit 21 more in a 12-season career and 3,191 at bats. In 1985 he divided his playing time with the Giants, Indians, and Pirates (all three finished in last place) and ended his career with Oakland in 1987.

LeMaster was a .222 hitter with 22 homeruns and 229 runs batted in in 1039 games.

During the 1985 season, he played for three different teams: the San Francisco Giants, the Cleveland Indians, and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Ironically, all three teams ended up in last place in their respective divisions.[1]
