John W. Hogan

John W. Hogan served from 1913 to 1923 as a Associate Judge of the New York Court of Appeals.

John W. Hogan was born in Troy, New York, on November 10, 1853^[1]. In early life he moved to Watertown, New York and began his practice of law there. When Denis O'Brien (also of Watertown) was elected New York State Attorney General in 1883, Hogan went with him to Albany, New York, as his Deputy^[1]. For 12 years, Hogan served under successive administrations. In 1896, he re-entered private practice in Syracuse, New York at the firm of Hancock, Hogan, Beach & Devine (predecessor to Hancock and Estabrook). In 1906, he became a member of the New York State Board of Charities. In 1912, he was elected as a Democrat to the New York Court of Appeals. He served until December 31, 1923.
