John Schaar

John Schaar is a scholar and political theorist. He is a Professor Emeritus at UC Santa Cruz. He received his Ph.D. from UCLA in 1954. He teaches at least one course per year, and is immensely popular with students.

He was raised on a farm in Pennsylvania, where he lost most of one finger as a child. He is married to political theorist Hannah Pitkin, and together they reside in the Santa Cruz mountains.
