John Saffin

John Saffin (1626-1710) was a Boston merchant, best known for his A Brief and Candid Answer to Samuel Sewall's The Selling of Joseph.[1]

Born in Somerset, England, John Saffin moved to the American Continent as a young boy, and settled in Scituate, Massachusetts.
After a career as a shrewd merchant in Boston, he moved to Bristol, Rhode Island in 1687. The rest of his life was marked by his conflict with Samuel Sewall over the issue of slavery. [2]
