[edit] Immersion Center
J.R. Tucker is the home of the Henrico County Immersion Center. The Immersion program offers students a unique opportunity to be immersed in a foreign language for the duration of their high school years. Students gain a respect for diversity of languages, backgrounds and values. Insight into the structure of the English language is expanded as students acquire an understanding of the close connection between language, thought and the nature of language. They develop creative expressions and logical thinking and are able to communicate and exchange ideas and information. Further, students are empowered with the sense of an international community as they are offered the opportunity to travel to either Spain or France as a part of the course.
The Foreign Language Immersion Center was founded in 1993-94 at J. R. Tucker High School as the first Specialty Center for Henrico County Public Schools. We are proud to continue this tradition into our second decade. We offer high school students an opportunity to prepare themselves to thrive in a society that is rapidly becoming global in nature. By taking advantage of the opportunities we provide, students can develop a very high level of proficiency in either French or in Spanish, both of which are languages of major importance in the world today. The course sequence starts in the ninth grade, and participants normally have already had one year of study in the language they choose to pursue. Exceptions can be made for highly motivated and talented students.[1]
[edit] Rivalries

Tucker's newest rival is Deep Run High School. Upon the opening of Deep Run High School, much of Tucker's student body was moved to the new location.

The Tigers also placed first at the District Competition in 1997 and 2001.
Their constant winning streak has been stated as a "dynasty", with a diamond-shaped hand gesture symbol to accompany it.
November 11 J.R. Tucker Tiger Cheerleaders won second place in the AAA cheerleading competition, succumbing only to the Stone Bridge Bulldogs by only one point (266 points vs. 265). In the first round, the Tigers took the top spot followed by the Mountain View Wildcats. Tucker's overall score was 444 vs. Stone Bridge's 439. This means that had the high and low scores not been dropped, the Tigers would have taken the state championship. [edit] News
April 3, 2007 Sixteen Henrico County students have been transported to area hospitals after falling ill at J.R. Tucker High School in Henrico County.
According to officials, one building on Tucker's campus was evacuated after those students began complaining of various symptoms. Officials had reported there was a strong chemical odor in the builing. A student had released Pepper spray intentionally during class.
Students and staff in the affected building were evacuated to the cafeteria, which is located in another building on Tucker's campus. -Article ends here-
The school was right to call it a "non-emergency lockdown". The administration called it a "non-emergency lockdown" because students were still allowed to go to the bathroom with an administrator escort. In order for an "emergency lockdown" to be issued there would have to be an intruder on campus and ALL the faculty, staff, and students would have been secured in some kind of building. No one would have been allowed out walking around the grounds. The anouncement was intended more toward the teachers than for the students. The front office was being bombarded with phone calls because some students had texted their parents while in class.
During first lunch, 3 students were sitting on the side of building 7, watching NBC12 News reporter Rob Richardson update the public on this event. They were watching the news on the computer as well.
