John R Bacon

As retail director of Camden Motors Limited John Bacon pioneered ground breaking work in the use of interactive multimedia assets to create the first “one stop shop” solution for the UK automotive sector.

His work started in 1991 producing a prototype touch screen application, which led to an EEC Esprit III sponsored project; "OASIS" [Online Automated Sales & Information System] The EEC Directorate III in 1996; describing his work as a “world class solution”.

The Financial Times described his approach as "Best Practise".

In 1997 having set up a separate Barclays subsidiary Car Shop, the business was sold to Haymarket Publishing and John became Group Development Director responsible for putting the famous brands of What Car? and AUTOCAR on the Internet and Interactive Digital TV.

John won two top industry awards for his work; the 1994 Motor Trader Award for his innovative training solutions and the 1995 Motor Industry Award for Most Innovative Use of Technology.

John was the first to introduce remote interactive kiosks, the first to exploit the potential of the Internet in 1995 and the first to launch an interactive TV solution through a personally negotiated exclusive five-year contract with BSkyB.

John has presented his work in the USA and Europe. His work has been published extensively at home and abroad and has led to two national awards for technology innovation and design.

From over 20 years in senior management positions in finance and retailing John Bacon offers a clear coherent and uncompromising perspective on new media its potential and possibilities gained from over nine years on the front line as pioneer of new media solutions.
