John P. Lawrence

Dr John Paul Lawrence, Sc.D CS, (born 3 July 1958) Former Senior Advisor on terrorist organisations in the middle east to the Secret Intelligence Service (SIS) - MI6.

It is understood that Dr Lawrence was recurited into the Information Research Department of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and subsequently served in MI6. During his time with MI6 he served in the Middle and Far East. He was also a regular intelligence advisor to Margaret Thatcher (British Prime Minister 1979 - 1990) at COBRA meetings during the 1980s. Last known Foreign office appointment was with The Corps of Queen's Messengers.

Commissioned at Sandhurst Military Academy, he served with British Special Forces units and with the Special Air Service in the Falklands War of 1982.

He has links with the NSA and Col Oliver North (Iran-contra affair) and is understood to have spent some time with Col North in the middle east. He was decorated by US Defence Secretary Caspar Weinberger for services to US forces in Lebanon in 1983-4.
