From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Rev. Professor John McManners CBE FBA (born December 25, 1916 - died November 4, 2006) was Regius Professor of Ecclesiastical History and Fellow and Chaplain of All Souls College, Oxford.
An established authority in his field, he wrote many popularly acclaimed books, including Death and the Enlightenment (1981), which won Britain's Wolfson Literary Award for History and was chosen by The Times as one of the ten best non-fiction books of the year.
He fought in the World War II whilst serving in the Northumberland Fusileers, and rose to adjutant; a very impressive achievement for a non-regular officer.
He was awarded the CBE in the 2000 New Year Honours list "For services to Ecclesiastical History". [1]
