John MacDougall (broadcaster)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
John Macdougall (1923(?)-1994) spent nearly fifty years as a newsman and broadcaster in the Twin Cities.
Born in Minneapolis, he started working at the old WLOL-AM station in 1941. However, was drafted into the US Army in World War II, and served in Europe as an infantryman.
Returning to the Twin Cities, Macdougall started working as a reporter, voice-over artist and finally anchor at KSTP-TV from the late 1950's through the mid-1970s.
Macdougall moved into radio news after that, serving as KSTP's news director from the mid-seventies until his death of liver cancer in 1994.
Macdougall served as a sidekick on the Don Vogel show, where his gruff demeanor was a natural foil for Vogel. He was also the first news director to hire Minnesota Public Radio personality Cathy Wurzer.
