John Light (administrator)

Charles John Light (born Slad Valley, Gloucestershire 30 May 1940) is currently the Chairman of Gloucestershire County Cricket Club.

John Light is a second cousin of the poet Laurie Lee and the film director Jack Lee. His son from his first marriage is the actor John Light. He had a successful career as a schoolmaster, serving in Devon, Warwickshire and London, before retiring as a Headmaster.

He has played club cricket for Cirencester and he has served various voluntary organisations since his retirement. He was a popular MCC tour guide at Lord's Cricket Ground until 2005. He is a lifelong supporter of Gloucestershire County Cricket Club for whom he is currently the County Chairman. He previously chaired the Gloucestershire Exiles who are a fundraising club representing the cricket enthusiasts who not only live within the county boundaries, but through circumstances are exiled throughout Britain and beyond. The Exiles have an enthusiastic membership who produce a number of well organised and well attended social events throughout the year. An annual Exiles Day event was introduced at the 1996 Cheltenham Cricket Festival. They also produce an erudite newsletter entitled "Outside Edge".
