John Laing plc is a British construction and transport company headquartered in central London.
John Laing is a developer and operator of privately financed, public sector infrastructure projects such as roads, railways, hospitals and schools through Public-Private Partnership (PPP) and Private Finance Initiative (PFI) arrangements. It has three divisions:
- Laing Roads
- Laing Rail
- Equion: for projects in healthcare, defence, education, social housing, policing and criminal justice.
John Laing's turnover for the year ended 31 December 2004 was £250.1 million and profits were £25.1 million before tax. It was formerly a considerably larger company, with turnover of over £1 billion in 2001, but in that year it decided to dispose of its contracting, house-building and property divisions to concentrate on public sector projects.
In December 2006 John Laing plc was acquired by the Private Equity arm of Henderson Group.[1]
