John J. DeGioia

John J. "Jack" DeGioia (b. 1957) is the 48th and current President of Georgetown University. DeGioia graduated from Georgetown University in 1979 and continued working at the university after graduation in various administrative and faculty positions, including Dean of Students and Senior Vice President, before rising to the presidency. He earned a PhD in philosophy from Georgetown in 1995. Selected for the presidency in 2001, DeGioia is the first lay person to head a Jesuit university anywhere in the world. DeGioia has sought to push Georgetown University onto the world stage, holding world conferences on microcredit programs, the AIDS pandemic, and other pressing issues at the University. He graduated from Amity High School in Woodbridge, CT, class of 1975.
