John Ingle

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

John Ingle (born May 7, 1928 in Tulsa, Oklahoma) is an actor best known for his role as evil patriarch Edward Quartermaine on the ABC daytime drama, General Hospital.

Ingle took over the role of Edward Quartermaine in 1993 and continued until December 2003, when the show dropped him from contract to recurring status. Without a contract to keep him at GH, Ingle was free to court other offers and accepted the contract role of Mickey Horton, as a recast for the retiring John Clarke, on the soap opera, Days of our Lives. Once there, he became part of a love triangle story involving Bonnie (Judi Evans Luciano) and Maggie (Suzanne Rogers), a far cry from the "old man" that some brass at GH reputed the character of Edward to be. He can now be seen on HBO's Big Love.

Ingle returned to the role of Edward in 2006, but this time without his onscreen wife, actress Anna Lee, who died in 2004.

Ingle graduated from Verdugo Hills High School in Tujunga, Los Angeles, CA. From 1964 until 1984, he taught acting at Beverly Hills High School in Beverly Hills, California, where his pupils included Oscar-winning actor Nicolas Cage.
