John Hillarby

John Hillarby (Born 1966, Scarborough, North Yorkshire) is a writer of music related articles and short biographies.

Hillarby is widely recognised for his encyclopedic knowledge and work in relation to the acclaimed singer and songwriter John Martyn having written numerous short articles for music magazines and to accompany CD and DVD releases of Martyn's work. A short biography of John Martyn provides and insight into Martyn's career and the man himself. His insightful and compassionate style results in very enjoyable and informative work not only particulalry for the notes accompanying CD and DVD music releases.
Wrote a number of short biographies of well known folk artisits in A Gathering of Folk, a book of photographs of folk singers, songwriters and musicians including Richard Thompson, Danny Thompson, Kate Rusby, Martin Carthy and others, featuring the portrait photography of Mark Leightley with all profits going to the The Teenage Cancer Trust.
