From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

John Hastings, 2nd Baron Hastings was medieval English baron.

He was the son of Sir Henry de Hastings, 1st Baron Hastings, married Isabella, Daughter of William de Valence, 1st Earl of Pembroke, and was half brother of Henry III, his grandmother on his father's side being a younger daughter of David, Earl of Huntingdon, and a niece of the Scottish king, William the Lion. Due to this, in 1290 when Margeret, the maid of Norway, died, John laid claim to the vacant throne. During most of his life he fought against the Scots, and in 1301, signed a letter to Pope Boniface VIII, protesting the papal interference in the Scottish affairs.
