John Hamre is the current president and CEO of the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a position he has held since April 2000. He is also the former American Deputy Secretary of Defense.

In 2001 he was appointed by the United States Senate to serve on the Commission on the Future of the United States Aerospace Industry.
