John Hagen is a fictional character on the television series CSI: Miami. He is portrayed by Holt McCallany.
Detective John Hagen is a member of the Miami-Dade Police Department, occasionally working alongside the Crime Lab to investigate homicides, first appearing in episode 117, "Simple Man." He is the former partner of Horatio Caine's brother Ray, who was discovered to be a dirty cop. As a result of this, and a sense of responsibility in Ray's supposed death, Hagen has feelings of insecurity because of his close association, though Horatio does not seem to hold it against him. This fear causes psychological problems, culminating in his suicide in episode 324, "10-7." His suicide is all the more tragic in that Ray Caine at this point is not, in fact, dead, though Hagen's issues likely run far deeper than that.
Hagen, prior to his suicide, has a brief relationship with ballistics expert Calleigh Duquesne in season 2. Even after it is discontinued, he tells Financial Crimes Agent Peter Elliot to back off from Calleigh, though she informs Elliot that Hagen had the wrong idea about their relationship (episode 409, "Urban Hellraisers"). Later, when Hagen tries to steal evidence from a crime scene (so he could produce it later and look like a hero), she discovers the void, and Hagen panics, putting his gun to her head before fleeing. Calleigh recognizes the sound of his pistol cock moments before he uses his weapon to fatally shoot himself in her ballistics lab at the end of the episode. The trauma of his sudden and violent death causes her to quit ballistics for some time (episode 324, "10-7").
