John H. Francis Polytechnic High School

John H. Francis Polytechnic High School is a secondary school located in Los Angeles, California, United States.
Polytechnic, which serves grades 9 through 12, is a part of the Los Angeles Unified School District. Despite its name, Polytechnic is a comprehensive high school.
The school is located in the Sun Valley section of Los Angeles, in the San Fernando Valley. It offers a Magnet program for those willing to attend college in the near future. Its main pride is its Vocal Ensemble group, to which they pride in with Poly spirit.

Francis Polytechnic High School opened in the early 1900's at its original campus in downtown Los Angeles on Washington and Grand Streets. In 1956 it was moved to its present location. [1]. The school mascot is a parrot named Joe Poly.
In 2006, the openings of Arleta High School [2] and Panorama High School [3] relieved Polytechnic of its overcrowding.
[edit] Notable Alumni
Basketball player Gail Goodrich attended Poly and won a city championship. He later went on to play for UCLA and the Los Angeles Lakers both with which he won championships.
