John Goss Special

The John Goss Special was a limited edition of the Ford Falcon released by Ford Australia in 1975 to commemmorate John Goss' win in the prestigious Bathurst 1000 endurance race the previous year.
John Goss Specials were based on the 1975 XB Falcon Hardtop (Coupe) body and featured a 302 inĀ³ (4.9 L) Cleveland V8, sports suspension and the addition of a GS Rally Pack. This included a dash and steering wheel from the top-of-the-line Falcon GT, 14-inch 'twelve slotter' wheels, a GT-style bonnet (hood) with locking pins, and GT side vents.
The car was available only in white but a choice of two accent colours (Apollo Blue or Emerald Fire), with either a 4-speed manual or 3-speed floor-mounted automatic transmission. Colour-coded front and rear bumpers were also an option, and some dealers such as Max McLeod in Sydney (well-known at the time for their Horn cars) chose to add accessories like front and rear spoilers at an extra cost to the consumer.
Exactly how many John Goss Specials were built remains unknown, as Ford never released actual production figures. Estimates based on media reports of the day place the number anywhere between 260 and 800 (the number most often settled on is 400), making them popular among collectors despite not gaining the press or publicity of other limited edition Falcons such as the GTHO (1969-1971) or the Cobra (1978).
