John Fletcher (businessman)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

John Fletcher is the CEO of Coles Group, the biggest retailer in Australia.

In mid-2005 he was spotted in Coles Prahran (Victoria) Supermarket store rearranging stock items of shelves. At the time, he was probably participating in Coles Myer's "Working Together In Stores" programme, which Fletcher himself set up not long after he became CEO. At the time, he was criticised for not having spent any time during his career working in a retail environment. As a result, he created the "Working Together In Stores" programme (also known as "Partnering with Stores"), which requires head office staff to spend one week every year, in a store performing tasks a store-based staff member would perform.

Fletcher in the past has been a non-executive director on the board of Telstra. Prior to Coles Myer, he was CEO of Brambles Industries after a long career with them spanning 19 years, initially in an accounting role, and later in general management.
